First Age
Glorfindel was born around the time of the Years of the Trees in Valinor. He was part of the host of Turgon, but only followed him because of his kinship. He took no part in the Kinslaying at Alqualondë.
Glorfindel is a noble lord, known as one of King Turgon's chief lieutenants. In the original Fall of Gondolin, he was called the chief of the House of the Golden Flower. After fighting in the city's defence, Glorfindel escaped together with Tuor, Idril, Eärendil and many others. The survivors passed through the Encircling Mountains above Gondolin. However, they were ambushed by enemies, including a Balrog. Glorfindel duelled and killed the Balrog, but was himself killed
Second Age
Return to Middle-earth
Glorfindel's spirit departed to the Halls of Mandos, where he spent years with the spirits of the others who died. Due to his noble actions, valor and bravery that saved many Elves during the Fall of Gondolin, he was re-embodied after a short time.
A thousand years later, in SA 1600, Manwë sent him back to Middle-earth as an emissary of the Valar and granted him powers nearly as strong as that of the Maiar's
Third Age
Glorfindel remained for a time in Lindon along with the other noble Elves, such as Gil-galad, Círdan, and Elrond, a descendant of Tuor and Idril.
During the Battle of Fornost, Glorfindel was the major reason the evil Witch-King of Angmar was defeated. After the battle was over, and the Witch-King had fled, it was Glorfindel who predicted that no mortal man would ever destroy the Witch-king
A thousand years later, Glorfindel was sent by Lord Elrond to search for Frodo and his companions. He pursued some of the Nazgûl and drew them away from the Ford of Bruinen.
After the War
After the Ring's destruction, Glorfindel, along with Erestor and the sons of Elrond, witnessed the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen.[13] His ultimate fate is not known, but it is reasonable to assume that he eventually sailed to Valinor with the rest of his kin.
Personality
Glorfindel is fiercely loyal to those he considers close friends and family. Glorfindel can always be found in one of three places. Out on the training field, in his room with a good book, or out riding. He enjoys good company and has never turned down a change for a good drink with friends.
